Principal’s Message

We’re looking for 1-2 full-time staff members to join the La Mesa Shark Team—and we’d love to welcome more members of our school community!

This is a wonderful opportunity to work while your own students are at school and make a meaningful difference for other La Mesa students. As part of MPUSD’s SPED inclusion model, our goal is to ensure students receive the support they need while learning alongside their peers, maximizing both academic and social opportunities. 

Much of this Special Education support happens right in the classroom, working alongside teachers and students.

We are thrilled to welcome, Susan Welch, 

our new MFLC, to the Shark Family!

Military Family Life Counselors (MFLCs) provide confidential, short-term, non-medical counseling and support to military-connected students and families. They help students build coping skills, manage stress and emotions, navigate transitions, and address challenges that may affect their well-being or success at school. MFLCs also collaborate with school staff and families to connect students with additional resources when needed.

Susan Welch is a Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) supporting military children and families in Presidio of Monterey. She joined the MFLC program in 2017, supporting various positions in the program. Susan holds a Master of Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California, with more than 20 years in the field spanning multiple settings - including schools, clinics, family homes and hospitals. Susan is honored to support service members, spouses, and children across all branches.
